Film Production Steps
Film production is a comprehensive process that involves various stages, from conceptualisation to distribution. Here’s an overview of the complete film production process:
The film Production Process is intricate and involves collaboration among numerous professionals, each contributing their expertise to bring a cinematic vision to life. The specific details and timeline can vary depending on the scale, budget, and nature of the project.
In V Group Films, Pre-Production is the most important phase wherein all the planning and groundwork for the film take place. It starts with concept development, where the main idea of the movie and its category gets fixed. Once that is clear, the scriptwriting starts, including detailed storyline, dialogues, and scene breakdowns. After the script is finalized, budget planning needs to be done to assign funds in various departments like cameras, sets, costumes, actors, and VFX. At this stage, funding and investment are arranged by bringing in producers, sponsors, and investors. A proficient team is then built along with the director, DOP (Director of Photography), production designer, editor, music director, and other main crew members. Then comes the casting process where auditions are held and actors are finalized. After that, location scouting needs to be done to find ideal shooting spots and acquire necessary permissions. Finally, a detailed shooting schedule along with call sheets is drawn and sets, costumes, and props are prepared before moving into the actual production.
Production is the actual filming process. The crew has to set up lights, cameras, and audio, and rehearsals with actors are made. Scenes are shot based on the storyboard, and oftentimes with multiple takes of each in order to get the best performance. Simultaneously, dialogues on-set and ambient are recorded. Each day, the footage is reviewed through a process called dailies that help identify the mistakes or shots lacking so they might be quickly corrected.
Post-production is the place where raw footage develops into a finished cinematic film. It starts with video editing, where the best shots are chosen and placed in order. The editing has a series of stages: rough cut, fine cut, and final cut. Once the edit is complete, sound design is done, which includes dubbing dialogues, adding background scores, and incorporating Foley sounds for realism. If the film requires special effects, VFX and CGI work is added during this stage. Once the visuals are locked, colour grading is done to enhance the mood and tone of the film. Finally, audio and video mixing and mastering take place to create a perfect master file ready for release.
Once the filming is complete, the movie enters the Distribution and Marketing stage. In this stage, the marketing strategy is carried out with the launch of trailers, promotions on social media, press events, and public relations. Simultaneously, distribution deals for theatrical releases, OTT platforms, and international markets take place. After its release, revenue comes from box office collections, OTT licensing, and brand partnerships.
